The Little Ships at Dock:
The Music of the Little Ships, A Journey in Sound and Story

The Music of the Little Ships: A Journey in Sound and Story

This project is a living tribute — a tapestry of photographs, spoken quotes, and music woven together to tell the unforgettable story of the Little Ships and the souls connected to them.

It begins with the raw warmth of a folk shanty, echoing the spirit of those who first set sail from Ramsgate. Then, the tone shifts — moving into a series of hauntingly beautiful pieces, capturing the ghostly echoes of war, the weight of sacrifice, and the silent bravery carried across the Channel.

Throughout, voices tell real stories — memories passed down, moments lived — layered over powerful imagery that brings history to life.

And after the storm comes light: the journey ends on a joyful, catchy note — a playful thank-you to the Little Ship owners for their kindness, patience, and generous spirit as we photographed, listened, and learned over two unforgettable days.

This is more than a performance. It’s a heartfelt thank-you. A musical memory. A tribute to resilience, remembrance, and the people who help keep history alive. ©️Brittany's Extraordinary View's

The Little Ships: Leaving A Musical Journey Through Time

This is the story of the Little Ships —
small vessels with a mighty purpose, leaving Ramsgate Harbour on a mission that would echo through history.

Through a powerful blend of photographs, spoken quotes, and original music, this project brings to life the courage, sacrifice, and quiet strength of those who answered the call at Dunkirk.

The journey begins with a powerful emotional ballad, capturing the determined spirit of departure — sails set, hearts heavy, hope in every wave.

From there, the tone deepens into a haunting and beautiful series of pieces — each one a reflection of the harrowing events that followed. Set to striking imagery and the quotes from once who lived it, the music carries the weight of history: the fear, the bravery, the silence after the storm.

Some parts contain graphic descriptions of real events — unflinching truths that honour the depth of human experience during those days. These moments are included with care and respect, serving as a solemn reminder of the cost of courage.

This is not just a story told — it’s a story felt.
A tribute to the men, the ships, and the memories that still linger in the mist over the Channel.

As the heroic Little Ships returned from Dunkirk

As the heroic Little Ships returned from Dunkirk,

they were met by hundreds of people lining the harbour—waving flags, cheering, and applauding with full hearts. It was a truly emotional and awe-inspiring sight: these humble vessels, once part of one of the most courageous evacuations in history, gliding back into port under blue skies and proud eyes. The spirit of unity, remembrance, and gratitude filled the air. Young and old stood together in admiration, celebrating the bravery these boats represent and the people who lovingly preserve them. We captured this unforgettable moment in a heartfelt video, complete with photos and footage set to our own music—celebrating not only the triumphant return of the fleet but the enduring legacy they carry with them. With pride and thanks,

Reculver – Echoes of the Saxon Shore

Standing sentinel on Kent's windswept coastline, the twin towers of Reculver have watched over the shifting tides of history for nearly two millennia. Reculver – Echoes of the Saxon Shore is a haunting sonic monument to this liminal space where Roman legions once marched, medieval monks prayed, and the relentless sea continues its slow reclamation.

This completed musical project was born from countless hours spent photographing the site in all seasons - from the golden glow of summer evenings illuminating the flint towers to winter storms lashing against their crumbling facades. The recordings capture not just the physical space, but the weight of centuries layered in its stones.

The Sailors
Church Ramsgate Hymn

A tribute in music and image to Ramsgate’s maritime soul and sacred stones.

St. Augustine’s Church in Ramsgate, known locally as “The Sailors’ Church,” was envisioned in the 1830s when storms ravaged the Channel and grieving widows begged for a sanctuary on the cliffs. In response, famed architect Augustus Welby Pugin—champion of the Gothic Revival—designed this solemn masterpiece not only as a Catholic shrine, but as a beacon for those lost at sea.

🕯️ This ballad, “The Sailors’ Church (Ramsgate Hymn),” brings that history to life in haunting verses—where storm-tossed ships, lifeboat tragedies, and names etched in stone become a living hymn. You’ll hear echoes of real vessels like the Mary White, lost on Christmas night, and memorials to the lifeboatmen who rowed into gales and never returned.

Pugin’s towers rise like stone lighthouses, guiding the spiritual shipwrecked home. Inside, Kentish flint and glowing marble bear the names of over 2,000 sailors and mariners, each one remembered in architecture and now, in song.

Walpole Bay Hotel A Song for Preservation

This was a first for Brittany’s Extraordinary Views. We’ve always worked with photos that I’ve taken myself, but for this project, we were given the opportunity to explore the Timelocked Hotel—a beautiful historic building with a story of its own. Upon visiting, we discovered something unexpected: the iron veranda of this majestic hotel was starting to crumble. Inspired by its history and the need to preserve it, we decided to create a song to help support their crowdfunding effort. With a deep connection to the place and a heart full of Kentucky soul, this project became something personal. The song reflects my passion for preservation, blending history and music in a way that speaks to both the building’s past and its future. Though we didn’t have my own photos for this project (yet!), we are hopeful that we might return later to capture the hotel’s beauty with our camera. For now, this song will serve as a heartfelt tribute and a call to action for those who want to help preserve this historical gem. I hope you enjoy this project as much as we enjoyed creating it. Stay tuned for future updates—and who knows, maybe we'll return to capture some beautiful photos in the near future.
